Dental veneers

Dental veneers

A smile is the first thing noticed when getting acquainted, and it is what stays in memory the longest. Modern aesthetic dentistry allows for creating a harmonious, natural, and radiant smile using ceramic veneers.

Dental veneers are ultrathin (from 0.3 mm) ceramic overlays that are bonded to the front surface of teeth. They allow for correcting the color, shape, and micro-defects of the dental arch without resorting to aggressive trimming for crowns.

Ceramic Veneers (E-max) — the "gold standard" of modern aesthetics

In our clinic, we work with high-strength pressed ceramic (lithium disilicate), which has optical properties identical to human enamel. It has the same translucency, luster, and depth of color, making it virtually impossible to distinguish a veneer from a natural tooth.

  • Absolute color stability. The ceramic is non-porous, so it does not absorb food dyes. Your smile will not dull or change shade from coffee, tea, red wine, or time.
  • Durability. Unlike other types of restorations, ceramic veneers last over 10 to 15 years, maintaining their original shine and smoothness.
  • Jewelry-like precision. Each veneer is individually crafted in a dental laboratory after digital scanning of the teeth.

An important note about "no-prep veneers". Lumineers or ultra-thin veneers are often advertised online as a way to achieve a smile without touching the teeth with a drill. However, modern evidence-based protocols (including AACD recommendations - American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry) emphasize that for a veneer to fit perfectly to the tooth, not create a "step" at the gums, and not provoke decay, microscopic and delicate enamel preparation (within 0.2–0.5 mm) is necessary in most cases. We preserve your tissues as much as possible but strictly follow medical standards to protect your health.

Indications and Contraindications: An Honest Approach to Occlusion and Anatomy

Ceramic veneers are a powerful tool for aesthetic rehabilitation, but they have clear medical boundaries for application. We adhere to the rule that aesthetics should never compromise function.

Veneers are suitable for you if you have:

  • Significant color change of enamel (e.g., "tetracycline teeth" or fluorosis) that does not respond to chemical whitening;
  • Chips, cracks in the enamel, or uneven biting edges;
  • Small gaps or moderate diastema (if the proportions of the teeth allow them to be closed with ceramics without visually enlarging the crown of the tooth);
  • Old, visible fillings in the smile zone.

An important truth about bite and large diastemas:

  • Bite pathologies. Veneers are not a substitute for orthodontic treatment. If a patient has significant crowding, a distal, deep, or crossbite, prior orthodontics (braces or aligners) is a direct indication. Attempting to "straighten" crooked teeth with veneers will lead to excessive grinding of healthy tissues and rapid chipping of the ceramic due to pathological overload.
  • Closing diastemas. For large gaps between teeth, orthodontic preparation is mandatory. Simply closing a large diastema with veneers will make the teeth disproportionately wide ("barrel-shaped"), completely ruining facial aesthetics. An orthodontist properly distributes space in the dental arch before the prosthodontist creates ideally proportioned veneers.
  • Bruxism (night grinding). Requires the mandatory fabrication of a protective night guard after the placement of veneers.

Digital Smile Design (DSD): See the result before treatment begins

The biggest fear of the patient is, “What if I don’t like the new shape?”. At Dobrobut Dental Clinic, we completely eliminate this risk thanks to the Digital Smile Design concept.

  1. We take a series of professional photos and perform intraoral 3D scanning (instead of unpleasant classic silicone impressions).
  2. A special program models your future smile, taking into account the proportions of your face, expressions, lip shape, and your color type.
  3. We transfer this model into the oral cavity using a special temporary material (Mock-up).

You can try on your future smile, look in the mirror, and make adjustments even before we start working on your teeth!

How veneers are installed: long-term calibration protocol

Creating a premium smile in our clinic is a clear and uncompromising process, where special attention is paid to the work of the joint (TMJ) and chewing function.

  • Stage 1: Consultation and 3D diagnostics. We assess the health of the gums, joint, and teeth, perform computed tomography (CT) and condylography if needed.
  • Stage 2: Digital planning and smile test drive (Mock-up).
  • Stage 3: Micro-preparation of enamel. This is done under a dental microscope, which guarantees the preservation of healthy tissues.
  • Stage 4: Long-term temporary prosthetics (up to 1 month). This is a fundamental stage of our protocol. We fix high-precision temporary veneers made of medical polymer, which you wear for about a month. This is necessary not only for aesthetics but also for the final calibration of occlusion (bite). During this time, your muscle system and joint adapt. The doctor evaluates chewing movements, diction, and tooth contacts in real life. If overloads are detected — we make adjustments in the temporary structure, and only after achieving perfect functional balance do we transfer the parameters to the laboratory for the production of permanent ceramics.
  • Stage 5: Fixation. The finished ceramic veneers are fixed according to a strict adhesive protocol under a rubber dam (special isolation). This ensures a monolithic bonding for years.

Why do patients choose Dobrobut Dental Clinic?

We understand that getting veneers is an investment in your confidence. Therefore, we offer a premium-level medical approach:

  • Gnathological approach. Our orthodontist dentists work in synergy with gnathologists. We care about the health of the temporomandibular joint, so our veneers are not just beautiful — they are functional and serve for decades.
  • Microscopic control. All manipulations are performed with multiple optical magnifications for perfect edge fit of the ceramics.
  • Absolute comfort. No pain. All stages are done under reliable local anesthesia, and at the patient's request — in conditions of medication sleep (sedation).
  • Transparent pricing. A complete treatment plan with exact cost is fixed after the consultation. You know in advance the extent of your investment with no hidden payments.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can a veneer be placed on just one front tooth?

Yes, if the goal is to hide a local defect (for example, a traumatic chip or discoloration after root canal treatment). However, this is a high level of skill for the dental technician—to perfectly reproduce the color and individual characteristics of one tooth so that it does not stand out among the neighbors. If the aim is to radically change the smile, typically, 4 to 10 veneers are placed in the smile zone.

Does the tooth decay under the veneer?

No. The modern adhesive protocol involves a hermetic bond between the ceramic and the enamel. The tooth under the veneer is protected from environmental influences, bacteria, and acids even better than without it.

Why is it necessary to wear temporary veneers for so long (a month)?

Temporary veneers are a "prototype" of your future smile. They are needed for you and your doctor to ensure that the new bite is comfortable for the joint and muscles, that the teeth do not interfere during speaking and chewing, and that the shape fully satisfies you. This guarantees that the permanent ceramic will be perfect from the very first second of fixation.

Is it painful to have veneers placed?

The procedure is completely painless. Prepping, calibrating, and fixing are performed under modern local anesthesia. After the appointment, slight temporary sensitivity of the gums may occur, which disappears within 1-2 days.
